West Uptown United is a California nonprofit corporation formed by neighbors in the West Uptown area of San Diego. We advocate for development that respects fire and life safety requirements, applicable municipal code, and the established character of our community.
A proposed 7-story, 74-unit development at 3554–3560 Front Street raised serious concerns among residents — from fire and life safety to the displacement of existing affordable housing. We organized to give the neighborhood a unified, informed voice in the City's review process.
We monitor City review processes, submit public records requests, work with legal counsel where needed, and keep neighbors informed through newsletters and community meetings.
We represent the neighborhood bounded by Washington Street to the north, Laurel Street to the south, 1st Avenue to the east, and Goldfinch Street / Reynard Way to the west.
We're an all-volunteer group, and there's a role for everyone. A lot of neighbors have shown interest — what we need most right now is participation.
We're seeking committee heads and volunteers for Liaison with Other Community Groups, Media Spokesperson, Fundraising, Neighborhood Engagement, and Marketing / PR / Website / Social Media.
